Conducting Races |
|
The Sailfish Striders have been conducting races in the Stuart area for the past twelve years. This locale has expanded recently and we now travel northerly to Vero Beach and in the opposite direction to West Palm Beach. This has all been made possible by the volunteers we are able to assemble.
There are mainly two distinct segments to conducting a race. The first is accomplished by the sponsoring agency who, among other things, will gather financial support, obtain the necessary permits and purchase shirts, awards and food. Conducting the race is the responsibility of the Striders, using their equipment accumulated through the years.
Here is how it is done: An organization will make contact with us about staging an event. We will hold a meeting with their representatives at which time we present them with printed material related to conducting a race. If the organization wishes to continue we will confirm a date and course. A review is made of the assignment sheets which places responsibilities for certain necessary actions.
An accurate measurement is made of the course and is either certified or not. Contact is made with the organization at various times before the race at which times the assignment sheets are again reviewed to determine the progress of the preparations.
On race day the sponsoring agency will be responsible, with the assistance of the Striders, for the registration tables and other related duties. The Striders will assume the responsibilities related to the race course, conducting the race, compiling the results and presenting the awards.
A small fee is charged by our club to all sponsoring organizations
